Established in May 1757, the Carlisle Barracks is the second oldest army posts in the United States. During the French and Indian War, British and Provincial troops were trained here. In 1807, the post became known as the Carlisle Barracks. Since then, it has housed many institutions such as the School of Cavalry Practices from 1879-1918, the Carlisle Indian Industrial School from 1879-1918, the Medical Field Service School 1920-1946 and the U.S. Army War College since 1951.
